Wild White Clover (Trifolium repens) is a perennial legume well-known for its ecological benefits and gentle beauty. The plant forms a dense mat of trifoliate leaves and produces rounded white flower heads from May to September. Loved by pollinators, these nectar-rich blooms are a vital food source for bees throughout the warmer months.

Its nitrogen-fixing roots naturally enrich the soil, reducing the need for artificial fertilisers. This makes Wild White Clover an excellent companion in orchards, grassy verges, and wildflower-rich areas. It grows best in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a range of soils, including poor or compacted ground.

Once established, Wild White Clover is drought-tolerant, self-sustaining, and can be mown or lightly grazed without harm, perfect for low-input gardening or rewilding projects.

Sow Wild White Clover in spring or early autumn into bare, prepared soil. Rake the surface to create a fine tilth and scatter seeds evenly. Firm down gently and water lightly, do not bury the seeds deeply, as clover prefers light to reach it for germination.

Seeds germinate within 7 to 21 days in warm, moist conditions. Water regularly during establishment, especially in dry weather. Once rooted, Wild White Clover is remarkably resilient and requires minimal maintenance.

It spreads via creeping stems (stolons), forming a low-growing carpet that outcompetes weeds and tolerates light foot traffic. Ideal for integrating into lawn mixes or sowing as a standalone ground cover.

For garden applications direct sow at 1g/m2. For overseeding existing meadow planting or for new sowings on larger areas sow at a maximum of 2g/m2.

Wild White Clover is perfect for use in pollinator patches, under fruit trees, orchard floors, meadows, grassy pathways, and even as a lawn alternative. Its long flowering period and accessible nectar make it a magnet for bees and other pollinators. As a native wildflower, it contributes to local biodiversity and supports sustainable garden systems.
