This mix is ideal for urban edges, roadside verges, pavement cracks, brownfields, courtyard borders, green roofs and embankments. It helps convert neglected urban space into stray pockets of habitat, offering nectar, pollen and habitat for bees, butterflies, hoverflies and other beneficial insects. Over time, it contributes to urban biodiversity corridors.

Sow direct into prepared soil in early spring or autumn, choosing a spot with low fertility and good sunlight.

Clear the area of grass and weeds, then rake to a fine tilth. Scatter the seeds evenly and press down gently or lightly roll to ensure good contact with the soil, do not cover with compost or soil.

Water lightly during dry spells in the early stages, germination usually takes 2–4 weeks depending on temperature and conditions. Many species will flower in the first summer, with full establishment by the second year.

Once established, these wildflowers need little maintenance. Cut back once in late summer after flowering has finished, leaving cuttings in place for a few days to allow seeds to drop before removing. A light spring cut may also help fresh growth in urban settings.
