Deep Shade Lawn

A mix specially developed for gardens where sunlight is very limited, ideal for areas beneath dense tree cover. This blend goes further than our standard Shady Lawn Mix, delivering reliable establishment and sustained performance in the most challenging shaded conditions.

- Clear the area. Remove debris, stones, and weeds.

- Prepare the soil. Loosen to 15cm.

- Level the surface. Use a rake to smooth, firm with a roller if needed.

 - Allow settling. Let the soil rest for a week and remove emerging weeds then, rake the soil lightly to loosen the top layer.

 - Sow your grass seed. Spread the grass seed evenly at 35-50g/m2 using a spreader.  

- Incorporate the seed. Rake gently, then roll or tread to ensure good contact with the soil.

- Water regularly. Lightly water every evening during dry periods.

- Mow when ready. Mow the grass once it reaches 3-4 inches, gradually lowering the cut height.

- Feed lightly, if needed. Apply a low-nitrogen lawn feed once the lawn is established, especially in poor soils.

- Control weeds manually. Avoid herbicides in the first 6 months, hand-weed or spot-treat if necessary.

- Aerate as needed. In compacted or high-traffic areas, consider aerating in spring or autumn to improve root health.

- Monitor and reseed bare patches. Overseed thin areas in early autumn or spring to maintain full coverage.

Q1. What's the difference between Deep Shade Lawn and Shady Lawn?

A: Our Deep Shade Garden Lawn is designed for more challenging environments with denser, prolonged shade. It contains a higher proportion of fine fescues and bent grasses that are better suited to very low light levels, making it ideal where our Shady Lawn mixture may struggle.

Q2. How long will it take to establish>

A: Grass in shaded areas typically establishes more slowly than in full sun. Under good conditions, you can expect germination within 10–21 days, but full establishment may take a little longer. Consistent moisture and patience are key to success.

Q3. Will this grass seed grow in full shade?

A: Our Deep Shade Garden Lawn has been specifically formulated for areas with very little sunlight, such as beneath trees or alongside buildings. While no grass will thrive in complete darkness, this mixture performs far better than standard lawn seed in heavily shaded conditions.
