Sow direct into prepared soil in early spring or autumn. Clear the area of existing grass and weeds, rake to a fine tilth, and scatter the seeds evenly. Press down gently or lightly roll to ensure good contact with the soil—do not cover with compost or soil.

Water lightly during dry spells in the early stages. Germination may take 2–4 weeks depending on temperature. Most species will flower in the first summer, with full establishment by the second year.

Once established, these wildflowers require minimal care. Avoid fertilisers and mowing too often—cut back once in late summer after flowering has finished, leaving cuttings for a few days to allow seeds to drop.

Perfect for pollinator patches, borders, meadow strips, verges, school gardens, and rewilding projects. This mix supports essential insects, including honeybees, bumblebees, butterflies, and solitary bees, throughout their foraging cycle.

The seed mix includes a broad range of wildflowers which bloom with bursts of blue, red, pink, mauve, yellow, and white from early summer into autumn. Many of the species are perennials or biennials, meaning the display improves year after year with minimal intervention.

Sow in spring or autumn for best results. These species thrive in full sun and poor, well-drained, nutrient-depleted soils; no need for rich compost or fertiliser. Once established, the flowers will naturalise and often self-seed, providing lasting value and seasonal colour with very little maintenance required.

Q1: Will the mix grow in heavy clay or rich soils?
A: It performs best in well-drained, low-fertility soils. Avoid using compost or fertiliser, which encourages grasses and weeds over wildflowers.

Q2: How long will it flower for?
A: If sown in autumn, flowering usually begins in late spring or early summer, and can continue into September depending on species and sowing time.

Q3: Is this mix suitable for pots or containers?
A: It’s best suited to open ground, but it can work in large, deep containers if spaced well and grown in low-nutrient soil. Tip: Consider our Wildflowers for Window Boxes & Containers.
